Bexar County Jail – San Antonio, Texas
Bexar County’s former jail located on the banks of the San Pedro Creek in downtown San Antonio will be demolished in an effort to redevelop the area. Because the jail is closing, over 500 inmates will be transferred to Bexar County Jail’s main complex, creating the necessity for more beds and space. To house displaced lower custody county inmates, Butler-Cohen is working with Bexar County to design and construct a new 100,000 square-foot tower. This new construction will contain large dormitories with ample program space designed to prepare inmates for reentry into society and to reduce recidivism. This project was designed by Munoz & Company. Other project members include: GGC Engineering, Deborah L. Williams Architecture LP, the Argyle Group and Tindall Corporation.
