Bexar County Jail – San Antonio, TX
About the Project
Bexar County’s former jail located on the banks of the San Pedro Creek in downtown San Antonio was demolished in an effort to redevelop the area. Because the facility was closing, over 500 inmates were transferred to Bexar County Jail’s main complex. This created the necessity for more beds and space. To house displaced lower custody county inmates, Butler-Cohen worked with Bexar County to design and construct a new 105,000 square-foot tower. This new construction contains large dormitories with ample program space designed to prepare inmates for re-entry into society and to reduce recidivism. The facility also includes a 28,000 sq ft processing center on the ground floor. This project was designed by Munoz & Company.
